What is Sports Injury?
The injury that occurs while engaging in any sports or exercise is called sports injury. There are a number of reasons that cause sports injuries. It can occur due to a lack of use of proper technique, over-training, and failing to warm up before engaging in sports. These increase the risk of injuries.
What are types of sports injuries?
The most common types of sports injuries are:
Groin pull/Strain
The groin area is located between the end of the abdomen and the start of the legs. It consists of 5 muscles which help in the movement of our legs. Any kind of tear or rupture in these muscles is called groin pull/strain. It generally occurs in the athletes who are involved in sports activity that involves running and jumping. Any sudden stress or forced movement can cause Groin strain.
Torn ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament)
Torn ACL is the most common sport injury in athletes due to sudden stops or change in direction, activities that involve jumping and landing. When an ACL injury occurs, the player hears or feels a ‘pop’ on the knee.
Tennis Elbow
Tennis Elbow is a condition that involves swelling of the tendons in your elbow/arm that causes pain. It is usually caused by repetitive motion of your arm or wrists. Athletes aren’t the only one who can suffer from tennis elbow. Other professions which requires continuous movement of arms such as, painters, plumbers, carpenters etc. may also experience these symptoms.
Sprained ankle
Ankle Sprain is a typical injury that can affect people of all ages and professions. It occurs due to stretch or tear in the ligaments or tendons of ankle, caused by sudden twisting of the foot while running/walking or awkward placement of the foot, athletic events and so on.
